ESMARELDA - DOG HANDLER

Q: What 5 words describe you as a dog handler?

Passionate, fun, understanding, patient, firm.

Q: Where does your passion for dogs and animals come from?

I have always loved animals. As a kid I even wanted a bat for as long as I can remember, lol. But honestly, I love how forgiving dogs are. No matter how bad your day goes, they are always there to cheers you up. And I love cats for their independence and ability to sense when you need a cuddle.

Q: What do you think the secret is to being a great dog walker or handler?

You need to build a strong bond with your pack. They need to trust that you are there to lead them in a safe way, being aware of your surroundings and other dogs you may encounter. You need to lead your pack confidently so that they trust and follow you.

Q: If your dog could talk - what would he/she say about you to your future clients?

She is understanding and  fair yet, firm. I feel safe following her and know that I am in for a great adventure when she picks me up.

Q: Tell us a funny story that has happened to you on a day as a Dog Handler?

A first time boarder with us, wouldn’t let my hubby into the house, when he came home from work late one night.

Q: Would you rather want to be able to read a dogs mind OR text a dog and have him text your back? Give reason for your answer?

I would prefer to read their minds. Because dogs don’t have opposable thumbs  and you would spend forever deciphering auto correct.

l believe in the theory of mind that dogs have the ability to work out what we are thinking and feeling .l know dogs are man's best friend and they seem to have the traits that we wish we  as humans had. Therefore are think we would just read each others minds

I worked as a volunteer in my local RSPCA centre in an impoverished area of south Africa from primary school age. We had 2 dogs which were both rescues and many other pets like cats, birds, guinea pigs, snakes, rabbits, a tortoise and even a chicken. So animals are always a big part of my life

Q; What do you think the secret is to being a great dog walker or handler?

Having the understanding and patience to know that things dont always go to plan and that the health, happiness and fun for the dogs is always the most important thing to strive for

Q; If your dog could talk - what would he/she say about you to your future clients?

That I am always ready to play and have fun no matter how messy or muddy. And that I give the best ear scratches and cuddles

Q; Tell us a funny story that has happened to you on a day as a Dog Handler?

Having a few puppies over for a doggy sleepover and one of them found a clam shell used for decoration in our garden. He didnt leave that clam shell alone the entire week he was with us from taking it to bed with him for cuddles to nibbling on it when he was teething and even taking it to the bowl every time he had a meal! Very sweet to see his little comfort found in our home.

Q: Would you rather want to be able to read a dogs mind OR text a dog and have him text your back? Give reason for your answer?

Read their minds because sometimes especially when they are having zoomies it would be so lovely to hear all the joy and happiness they are experiencing
